American-made motorcycles are some of the best quality bikes in the world. Fortunately, your options for an all-American motorcycle company aren’t only limited to Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles. In this article, we’ll introduce 10 of the best motorcycles made in America.

What’s So Special About American-Made Motorcycles?

There are plenty of reasons why people consider “Made in USA” motorcycles special. For some American consumers, it’s a matter of patriotism. But, it’s really more than that—it’s also because companies design and manufacture these motorcycles in compliance with American standards. Therefore, they’re guaranteed to be well-built and high-quality, with little to zero problems.

The history of motorcycles in America dates back in the late 18th century. According to the National Motorcycle Museum, the single-cylinder-engine Orient-Aster is the first ever US-built unit. Charles Metz built it in his Massachusetts factory in 1898.

The Orient may be the first American company to mass produce a motorcycle, but it’s Indian Motorcycle that’s considered as the first American motorcycle company. They made their first unit in 1901, two years before William S. Harley completed his engine design and started the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

Aside from Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Indian Motorcycle, these are some of the most popular American motorcycle brands today:

The Indian FTR (then-called the FTR 1200) is one badass-looking motorcycle. The modern, all-black matte finish is accented by scarlet pinstripes, rear spring, and the iconic Indian Motorcycle logo.

The FTR is based around Indian’s competition-only FTR 750 flat-track race motorcycle, but is powered by a 6-speed, liquid-cooled 1203cc V-twin engine, which offers a remarkable horsepower of 120 and a torque of 87 ft-lbs. For a more controlled stopping power under all conditions, it comes with dual Brembo brakes (320 mm) and an inverted front suspension.

The FTR is a motorcycle that inspires comfort and confidence. Indian shortened the seat height to lower the center of gravity, making the motorcycle more comfortable and safer to ride. They also added a fully adjustable front suspension and piggyback rear shocks to ensure a more comfortable and smoother ride.

Cleveland Cyclewerks Ace

Serving as the improved version of its predecessor, the latest Ace offers more powerful engine options, better chassis geometry, and more effective stopping brake, among others. The Cleveland Cyclewerks offers three color options for the Ace: matte black, gloss red, and gloss green. It’s also available in two types of engines: the 250cc V-twin engine and 400cc SOHC, single-cylinder engine.

Its beefy fuel tank can accommodate up to 15 liters (approximately 4 gallons) of fuel. That’s enough fuel to travel up to 480 km (approximately 298 mi).
