Just like any other modification, the perfect ambidextrous safety selector can make all the difference in the way one shoots their AR-15. While there is no such thing as the perfect model, there is such a thing as the perfect one for the specific shooter. If you want to figure out what works best for you without dropping a lot of money on the wrong product, that’s what we’re here for.
Ambi Safety Selectors are one of the most common upgrades, and if you choose the correct model, it can be one of the simplest ones too. When it comes down to it, it’s a simple mod that can do nothing but make life easier for everyone in your household.
For those of you that are thinking you don’t need one because you’re right handed, just think about the possibility of having the option in case you’re injured. It’s always best to be prepared.

Radian Weapons Talon Ambidextrous Safety Selector 2-Lever Kit – AR15
Are you hoping for the simplest install of your life? The Radian Talon Ambidextrous Safety Selector 2-Lever Kit is the perfect go to. It might be a little higher in price, but with this selector, you also have more favorable options. You can install it as a standard 90 degree, or you can install it as the more favorable 45 degree option. It also has a spring loaded retention stud, so there are none of the pesky screws to worry about coming loose later on.
Most people actually switch from the other models in favor of the Talon, and I can’t say I blame them. It’s a much smoother fit, and it works flawlessly with other modifications. If you’re looking for a modular system, the Talon is the way to go.
JP Enterprises JPFC-SA
While JP Enterprises is more well known for having other superior parts, they have an exceptional ambidextrous selector series. One fall back is that it isn’t as compatible as some other options out there. If you’re fitted with other JP accessories, this is the perfect selector for your AR.
One of the main known incompatibilities is the Geissele triggers. This model is exceptional…as long as your AR-15 is compatible with it.
Strike Industries Flip Safety Selector Switch
Strike Industries has other options for switches. Their Hex Selector is basic but functional, and their Strike Switch is much faster and larger. The Flip Switch is the perfect middle ground for anyone looking for a change. The way that it is designed makes it perfect for when it gets wet which is fantastic considering its compact size.
While the Talon model gives you the option of 45/90, the Strike Switch gives you the option of 60/90 instead. Not to say one is better than the other. It really just comes down to your personal preference. The Flip Switch also has a more friendly price tag attached, so if your preference is decided off of price more than functionality, this is a safer option. Thanks to how compact it is, this option is great for anyone that is looking for a competition friendly mod.
Battle Arms BAD-ASS-PRO Safety Selectors
Not only are these ambidextrous by design, they are proven to be some of the most durable models out there. After thousands of rounds having been fired, there are still no loose screws and no need to fidget with it or replace it. This model is 100% compatible with all known AR variants, and with an easy install, you can’t beat it for the price.
This model is perfect for mil-spec gear, and you don’t need to look any further. It’s also the perfect selector for someone that doesn’t know where to get started. So, for those that are just starting to make modifications, this is the perfect start.
CMMG – Ambidextrous Safety Selector for AR15
This is definitely geared more towards those looking for something for competitions or purely tactical. CMMG is a made to order company, and each piece is fine tuned to function for as long as possible. The durability of this selector is out of this world, and it’s very easy to use in difficult shooting positions.
On top of that, this is one of the cheapest selectors on our list. Somehow, they can get away with being almost half the price of some of the other options on this list, but you won’t be sacrificing quality for cost here.
Elftmann AR-15 Ambi Speed Safety
This ambidextrous button is an interesting one. For as long as I can remember holding a gun, I’ve always had a lever safety switch, but some prefer to go for the quicker push button activation. That’s where ELF Tactical comes in. It fits all mil-spec AR-15 receivers, and the black oxide finish gives it the perfect finish for durability and visuals.
One thing that you have to look out for is the fact that you HAVE to keep it oiled to ensure that it operates smoothly. While this isn’t my go to for a style of safety, many others that have switched over have mentioned that they haven’t had any problems with the safety no matter how many rounds they’ve fired.
Knights Armament AR-15 Ambidextrous Safety Kit
This one is purely for your own personal preference. The Knights Armament kits come in different sizes to match your personal preference. Considering that it’s made of pure steel, it is surprisingly easy to install, but the design obviously has some room to improve. For those that aren’t looking for an aesthetically pretty attachment, this is a solid choice.
This is one of the more expensive options on our list, but you really do get what you pay for with it.
V Seven Weapons Systems AR-15 57/90 Degree
So, I have to begin this one with a quick warning. This is the most expensive model on this list, BUT it is worth every penny. For some of you, the fact that this one comes with a lifetime warranty is enough for you to buy it right now, and I completely agree. V Seven is so confident in their product that they offer a lifetime warranty. Their products are built to last, and on top of that, it is compatible with AR-15 and AR-10 style rifles.
They’ve broken down the design to the bare minimum, and with the titanium finish, it comes in at half of the weight of a standard steel ambi selector. It is not compatible with hyperfine triggers, but this is definitely my personal favorite. I’ve had this selector for quite some time, and I haven’t even come close to needing to take advantage of the warranty.
More On Ambi Safety Selectors for AR-15s
When it comes to selecting the right selector for you, there are multiple things to pay attention to. Seeing how this is a safety selector, you want to make sure that it is reliable in accomplishing its purpose while paying attention to what style works best for you. The safety selector is not something that you want to go faulty on you at any time.
Easy installation is a must for anyone that’s just starting out with modifying their rifles, but more experienced people won’t be too worried about this. No one wants something that’s more trouble than it’s worth, so easy installation is always worth it, as long as easy installation doesn’t sacrifice quality.
Also, understand what you’ll be shooting for. Is it for home safety? Casual target practice? Competition? Some models are designed with these specific purposes in mind. Some of these models are purely for competition, but all of the models are functional as they are.
Finally, cost is always a key factor. No one wants to overpay for a product that is only worth half of what the price tag says. That’s why the lifetime warranty of the V Seven model seems so worth it. Dropping that much money at one time to ensure that I don’t have to pay it again makes the higher price tag worth it in my mind. To each their own though, and that’s why we have multiple options.
Hopefully there’s something here that suits your needs. Happy hunting, safe travels, and fun times are ahead of us all. The right Ambidextrous Safety selector for an AR-15 will help ensure that for everyone with you and around you.
